How much do you Know about the Six Wireless Charge Technologies?

Although wireless charge technology has been widely concerned in recent years, it is still not really popular in the field of consumer electronics. First, the wireless charging Alliance (WPC): electromagnetic induction mode, established in December of 2008.


At present, WPC has 172 member companies in business promotion of Qi standard: Ti, Philips, Freescale, Toshiba, Microsoft, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Qualcomm (finally joined), etc.


The wireless charging standard Qi jointly formulated by wireless charging Alliance (WPC) adopts electromagnetic induction mode. But there are many defects in this technology, for example, the maximum output power is only 5W, so the charging speed will be very limited.


From the market scale, Qi is undoubtedly the most popular at present. It is worth noting that the latest standard of Qi can achieve a wireless charging distance of 7-45mm, which is a small breakthrough.


Advantages and disadvantages of electromagnetic induction technology used in Qi marking:

Second, A4WP (wireless energy alliance): MR, established in May 2012

At present, the A4WP (wireless energy alliance) founded by Samsung and Qualcomm has more than 40 members: Samsung, Qualcomm, Broadcom, gill industries, integrated device technology (IDT), Intel, etc.

The wireless charging technology of A4WP (wireless energy alliance) is called "rezence" and uses magnetic resonance (resonance induction, also known as resonance coupling technology). Although it appears occasionally in some consumer electronics exhibitions, it is still not officially commercially available.


Advantages and disadvantages of magnetic resonance technology used in A4WP:

Advantages: long transmission distance and high efficiency

Disadvantages: circuit frequency modulation is not easy


1. Intel

(2) on the second day of IDF 2015, Intel mentioned a commonplace technology -- wireless charge. Although this is not the first time for Intel to launch this technology, unlike in the past, Intel announced that it will take advantage of the integrated wireless charge function in skylake, the sixth generation core processor, which will be released in the second half of the year. This is like 12 years ago when using Centrino platform to push wireless network technology, and currently it is pushed to promote the popularity of wireless charge.


2. IDT

Integrated device technology, Inc. is developing an integrated transmitter and receiver chipset based on resonance technology for Intel's wireless charging technology. Intel Corporation is committed to providing verification reference design for ultrabook, all-in-one machine, smartphone and independent charger development with the help of IDT's leading technology.


3. WiTricity company of the United States

WiTricity also uses magnetic resonance to transmit electricity over a distance of several meters. MIT has raised the effective distance of wireless charge to about two meters through resonance induction technology, which is named "WiTricity". One of the researchers left his job and started a business and developed a set of system, but the price is relatively expensive, reaching 995 US dollars (about 6240 yuan).


Third, PMA (power alliance): electromagnetic induction mode

PMA, cofounded by Procter&Gamble and Powermat technologies, has more than 70 members, including many communication and mobile phone manufacturers, such as Samsung, Broadcom, HTC, LG and Huawei.


PMA (power alliance) also adopts electromagnetic induction technology, which is later than WPC. Although PMA's products can be found in the market, there are not in a large number. The biggest business activity is to obtain Starbucks support. Free wireless charge service has been launched in some stores in China, but the response is flat. On the other hand, it has become the fastest wireless charge standard in North America. Its remarkable feature is that it prefers charging devices, such as tables, furniture and so on.


It is worth noting that the two camps of A4WP and PMA have also announced a formal merger, and the magnetic resonance and magnetic induction will be integrated to promote the unification of wireless charge standards as soon as possible in the future.
